Artist Tags and You: a small guide to getting the most out of Nova Furry
Well, Warlock here, your friendly neighbourhood totally-not-a-furry. You might know me from other places as FrivolousBand10. I come bearing an announcement.
With the release of Nova Furry 18B (and that "B" is important here), there's (again) a furry checkpoint that combines decent prompt adherence with the ability to use artist tags. As a matter of fact, if you head over to E621 and grab an artists name with enough published pictures, chances are that Nova Furry 18B will do a decent job of emulating their style. An additional benefit of this checkpoint is also that style LoRAs tend to work better/have a strong effect on the output.
While the tags technically work with all Nova Furry checkpoints, results are mixed - the old versions (<9) generally have issues following more complicated prompts, suffer from generation errors and are rather plain in their results, compared to newer versions. The newer versions (especially <12) introduced a strong style bias, up to the point where style LoRAs became nearly unusable. The styles are still there, but can be extremely subdued, even with higher weights (1.3 and up).
Nova Furry 18A has a rather pretty style right out of the box, but the issues described above. Nova Furry 18B looks a lot plainer, but works extremely well with those artist tags.
I took the liberty of providing some examples, using the same prompt, seed and checkpoint (Nova Furry 18B, duh). The subject matter is furry for our example, since that's what the checkpoint is all about, but it does a decent job emulating some TV shows, anime artists and western artists specializing in 'human' fanart. Well, you know your R34 artists, I suppose.

The Owl House - this is one of the styles that works better on human subjects, but the resemblance is still strong.

And for some human examples:

Akira Toriyama
Masamune Shirow
Ilya Kuvshinov

Here's a list of tested artist tags. There are likely more, but this should give you an idea just how many styles you can tickle out of an aging Illustrious Checkpoint. I recommend putting them in a bracket and placing them behind the quality modifiers, like (bunnybits). Some cased might require additional entries (2d, 3d, flat colours, no shading) to approximate the style, but the internal bias is pretty strong with Nova Furry 18B already.

For the books, I'm not associated with Nova Furry or Crody, don't get paid for this and have no reason to shill it beyond being a pretty decent checkpoint for furry art due to the above. You might also note that the list includes a lot of dead or inactive artists - this is what started it. I wanted to see more of that style, and, well, nothing is going to bring the likes of James Hardiman or Gene Catlow back.
Have fun experimenting.
